D-Star is a pattern that was published in 2001. It is the result of three years of research sponsored by the Japanese government and administered by the Japanese Radio Association). It was created to meet the need for new technologies for use on radioamaryry. The research involved Japanese radio manufacturers and other observers. ICOM provided used equipment for development and testing. D-star radios and repeaters have been tested exhaustively and are now available for public use.

D-Star is a new transmission mode for digital and data communications. It is an efficient and innovative form, created by radio amateurs for radio amateurs. Through links via the internet or even microcoinda (1.2GHz), it is possible to interconnect repeats D-Star forming a mudial communication network between radio amateurs.

The D-Star system offers unprecedented features and features that increase the efficiency of our communications. The name D-Star comes from Digital Smart Technologies for Amateur Radio, which in Portuguese means intelligent digital technologies for amateur radio.
