U.S. Local Notice to Mariners

Downloads and displays Notices from U.S. Coast Guard, free, no ads.

NOTICE: server that provided updates was broken in late Aug. and Sept. Now fixed and providing current data.

For those not familiar with the light lists, the nautical charts contain only the location, name and simple characteristics of the items.

The light list contains the details. For instance how to turn on the fog horn at Chetco River Oregon.

The local notice to mariners contains amongst other things the discrepancy list: a buoy adrift, a light extinguished, replaced by a temporary ??, etc.

A brand new companion application displays the discrepancy list in a scroll-able version or a world map view with colored pins for each item.

Choose the Coast Guard District from the drop down list, override the week to download(if desired), push 'Get LNM' button. The present year is picked automatically. The PDF file is downloaded to your Download/lnm folder. Use the 'Read LNM' button to display the PDF with your favorite PDF reader.

This app is intended for professional as well as novice mariners.

Tested on Android 2.2 and 5.1, 6.01. Motorola Droid, Galaxy S4, Nexus 7.

FREE, no charge, no ads. NO user data collected. Permissions: sdcard, internet.

Notes: uses internet connection which may cost you, use free WiFi where practical. May not always choose the latest issue to download. If it doesn't, use the override to pick a different week; as the LNM 's come out once a week, usually Wed. or Thurs. mornings.

For the foreseeable future, downloads are from my private server, much faster. No promises to keep this feature, but there is no cost to me at present. The downloads that you get, come down from the USCG web site at midnight of the day following when the USCG updates; which most happen on Wed. with the remainder on Thurs. All of this is a big improvement, except for the slight delay between when they generate and my server downloads them to my web site. Will see what can be done to reduce this delay.

In case you were wondering, the folder on my web site is password protected to prevent downloading by anyone except this app's users.
